Who residential care is for

Residential rehab is the most structured level of care below a hospital.

After detox

Most people move into residential care once withdrawal is medically stable.

Co-occurring conditions

Anxiety, depression or trauma alongside substance use often need daily, integrated care.

A home that makes it hard

Some homes or schedules make recovery hard to start. A residence removes those triggers.

Outpatient was not enough

If outpatient treatment did not hold, a residential stay adds round-the-clock support.

What a residential stay looks like

Arrival and assessment

Medical, psychiatric and substance use history shape an individual plan.

Daily therapy

Individual and group therapy, often CBT or DBT, plus family sessions and wellness time.

Discharge plan

Step-down to outpatient care, sober living and an alumni or aftercare program.

What “luxury” adds, and what it shouldn’t replace

Luxury programs usually mean private or semi-private rooms, a small number of residents, chef-prepared meals and wellness extras like fitness, massage or yoga. Those things make a stay easier, and comfort can help people stay long enough for treatment to work.

They don’t replace the clinical core. Before you compare views and thread counts, compare the things that predict good care:

  • An active license from the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) for the exact address
  • Accreditation from The Joint Commission or CARF
  • A named medical director and licensed therapists, with real one-on-one therapy hours each week
  • Treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions, not just substance use
  • A written aftercare plan before you leave

What luxury residential rehab costs

$30,000 – $65,000

typical for a 30-day stay

Some well-known Malibu programs charge more. Insurance may cover part of the clinical care; amenities are usually out of pocket.

How long is residential rehab?

Most programs offer 30, 60 or 90 days. Longer stays give more time to practice new routines before going home, and many people step down to outpatient care afterwards.

Can family visit?

Most programs allow visits after the first week or two and offer family therapy sessions. Policies vary, so ask each facility.

Can I bring my phone or laptop?

Some luxury and executive programs allow limited device use; others don’t. Ask before you book if staying reachable for work matters.

Do I need detox first?

If you are physically dependent on alcohol, benzodiazepines or opioids, yes. Many residences offer detox on site. Read about luxury detox centers.
