How we check facilities
Every facility profile on this site shows the same facts, checked the same way, with the date we checked them. Paying for a featured placement never changes what a profile says.
What we check
- The state license. We match the facility’s street address to the public list kept by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS Licensing and Certification (opens in a new tab)). We show the license number, the license type (residential with detox, or outpatient), the number of licensed beds and the listed expiration date.
- Name mismatches. If the license at an address is held under a different name, we say so on the profile and suggest you ask the facility about it.
- What the facility says it offers. Levels of care (detox, residential, PHP, IOP), dual diagnosis care, medications and amenities are taken from the facility’s own website and labelled as its own description.
- Accreditation claims. If a facility says it is accredited by the Joint Commission or CARF, or verified by LegitScript, we note it as stated by the facility. You can confirm Joint Commission status on Quality Check (opens in a new tab).
What we do not check
- We have not toured the facilities we list.
- We do not publish success rates, because no LA program reports them in a way you can compare.
- We do not post reviews or star ratings.
- We do not check insurance contracts. Ask each facility which plans it bills, in writing.
Listing a facility is not an endorsement. If an address has no license we can match, we either say so plainly or leave the facility off the site.
How placements work
Facilities can pay a flat monthly fee to be featured. Featured listings are labelled “Featured · Paid placement”, their website links are marked as sponsored, and their order is random. We never charge per call, lead or admission, and we do not take calls on a facility’s behalf.
See List your program for details.
Corrections
Facts change: licenses renew, programs move, owners change. Each profile shows the date we last checked it. If something on a profile is wrong, facilities can send a correction with their license number through the facility form, and we update the page and its “checked” date.
