What executives worry about most
These are fair questions. Good programs answer them in writing.
Confidentiality
Federal rules (HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2) protect treatment records. Nothing is shared without written consent.
Time away
Eligible employees can take up to 12 weeks of job-protected leave under FMLA for treatment.
Staying reachable
Some executive programs allow scheduled phone and laptop time. Ask about the policy up front.
Burnout and stress
Stress, sleep and anxiety are treated alongside substance use, not ignored.
How executive programs usually work
Private intake
A confidential assessment, often arranged outside office hours, with discreet transport.
Treatment with structure
Daily therapy and medical care, with set windows for essential work if the program allows it.
Return-to-work plan
A plan for the first months back: outpatient sessions, boundaries and support.
Executive program or standard luxury residential?
| Executive program | Standard luxury residential | |
|---|---|---|
| Work access: | scheduled device time is often allowed | devices are usually limited |
| Schedule: | flexible around essential work | a fixed daily program |
| Privacy: | private rooms, very small groups | private or shared rooms |
| Cost: | usually at the top of the range | mid to high range |
Work access can help some people stay in treatment, and can distract others. Be honest about which one you are.

Will my employer find out?
Not from your treatment team. Providers need your written consent to share substance use treatment records. If you use FMLA leave, your employer learns you have a serious health condition, not the details.
Can I keep working during rehab?
Some executive programs allow limited, scheduled work. Most clinicians advise keeping it to the essentials for the first weeks.
Is executive rehab only residential?
No. Some professionals do well with intensive outpatient care, or with at-home detox followed by outpatient therapy.
How private is a luxury facility?
Most use unmarked residences, private rooms and strict visitor rules. Ask how they handle staff confidentiality and media requests.
